This week’s Writer Wednesday features Writing Room member Megan Farris of Northville, Michigan!

Megan currently works for an automotive supplier. She has two published children's books and is in the process of writing a dating/self-love memoir and romance novels. Learn more about her below!

What writing projects are you currently working on?

I am writing a dating/self love memoir and have several romance novels in various stages of completion.

What is your favorite part of the writing process?

I love when an idea hits — it’s like an adrenaline rush for me. Thoughts just start spilling out and I immediately need to get to something to take notes and get those thoughts out so I don’t forget them!

What does your writing workspace look like?

I write everywhere! When inspiration strikes you can’t stop it! I have a small desk set up in my dining room which is of course a g- to spot for convenience. But I love to go to public places and write and people watch! Fancy restaurants, libraries, coffee shops, hotel lobbies, you name it. I also love writing while on vacation by the pool or on the beach.

What’s your favorite writing memory?

I still remember my first BIG writing project. I was in 7th/8th grade, and I wrote an entire movie script. This was before online was big for me to research something like that. But I remember having all the details about manners and characters and how the scene played out. Everything. I carried an orange folder with all my loose leaf, handwritten script everywhere I went.

What is your favorite non-writing hobby?

Reading. Travel. I love reading memoirs, mysteries, romance, fantasy and personal development. I am also an avid traveler. I love family travel, group travel, traveling with my 8-year-old daughter, solo travel. I’ve been to 17 countries and counting. I enjoy engaging with people from all over the world, learning about history, museums, cultures and architecture.

What is your favorite piece of writing advice?

Just write, edit later. Just get the thoughts, words, ideas out of your mind and onto paper (or computer). Don’t overthink it. It doesn’t have to be perfect.
