Hear what our Detroit Writing Room community has to say about coaching sessions, workshops and more!

I LOVE Detroit Writing Room! As a writer who works in several genres, I’ve found the coaching at the Writing Room an invaluable resource! I’ve worked with Stephanie Steinberg on a journalistic essay, Lizz Schumer on flash hybrids, and Chelsea Debanski on social media presence. Most recently, I had a wonderful session with Justin Brouckaert. He offered incredibly helpful guidance regarding the query letter for my novel. I now feel confident reaching out to agents! I highly recommend the Writing Room coaches!

The Detroit Writing Room is the place to hone your craft, unlock your voice, connect with others and explore all you can become in the world of writing and publishing. Through their seminars and educational programming, I’ve met other writers from Michigan and across the globe, explored new avenues for my work and connected with literary agents seeking submissions and new clients. Throughout the challenge of COVID, they adapted beautifully, moving their sessions online and providing encouragement, ideas and support. If you seek an organization that can help you get to the next stage of your writing career, I can’t think of a place more worthy of your time and investment.

I’ve been utilizing the coaching services of The Detroit Writing Room and the results have been terrific. I’m currently working with Laura Berman, and my project has benefitted significantly from her guidance and editing. Laura is a wonderful resource!

I also had the assistance of Amy Nielander on another project and the result was very beneficial, providing insight that changed the path forward, which will much improve the end result. Many thanks to Stephanie Steinberg for wisely picking coaches for me that fit my writing needs. It’s been money very well invested.

The Detroit Writing Room workshops and Happy Hours have provided me with great insight into becoming a better writer. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the speakers and the content provided, and I feel that I am elevating my creative capacity — much more so than just a regular online course. I am so happy this resource exists — thank you DWR, I can’t wait for the next session.

The Detroit Writing Room is a unique, innovative and needed organization in the Detroit area. I learned of the organization thanks to a colleague that recommended its podcast workshop. DWR is essential to me and my crew for educating, teaching, coaching, youth coaching support, writing and artist support — allowing expression of authors, poets, entrepreneurs alike in the ‘D’, and beyond to flourish!

I have learned so much with social media coaching from one of DWR’s amazing and thorough professional coaches, Chelsie Dzbanski! Chelsie is so successful at conveying her rich knowledge for my full understanding of social media importance and presence to facilitate readership, viewership and brand awareness needed for success.

My coach exceeded my expectations because she was caring and sensitive. I was lacking my inspiration for writing. She was understanding and encouraged me to be patience with myself, which was a tremendous help. I was able to resume writing sooner than I expected and with passion.

I want to thank you for creating The Detroit Writing Room...for giving me a space to write in for a few months where I could meet other writers and all-around great people, thank you! I got a lot accomplished, and I’m looking forward to getting my work out there at some point this year!

I thoroughly enjoyed participating in The Detroit Writing Room’s Yoga for Writers workshop. Instructor Lindsay led an energizing yoga practice, which offered an ideal balance of strengthening and stretching appropriate for both newbie and veteran yogis. Afterward, Lindsay facilitated guided journaling, giving me a much-needed opportunity for self-reflection. Lindsay’s kind, compassionate words helped create a safe space where I felt comfortable sharing my thoughts with fellow participants. I left the workshop feeling refreshed, inspired and grateful for the opportunity to connect with this community. Thank you to the DWR and Lindsay for this special experience!
