Copy Editor and Writer Lindsey Lewandowski Gerow
This week’s Writer Wednesday is DWR member Lindsey Lewandowski Gerow of Alpena, Michigan! Lindsey has a bachelor’s degree in print journalism, as well as certificates in book publishing and creative nonfiction writing. Lindsey recently moved to Michigan from Chicago, where she works in digital publishing. Learn more about her below!
What writing projects are you currently working on?
I took three creative nonfiction writing courses last year through Interlochen Online, and that experience has inspired me to revisit essay writing in my free time.
What is your favorite part of the writing process?
When my voice starts to shine through!
What does your writing workspace look like?
In my home office, I have a desk, fireplace, reading chair and bookshelf wall.
When did you first discover your love for writing?
I grew up reading and dreamt of becoming an author like Ann M. Martin. I worked on my high school and university newspaper staff training as a reporter, copy editor and proofreader and began my career in the newsroom.
What is your favorite non-writing hobby?
Reading on my Kindle!
What is your favorite piece of writing advice?
Memoir is a story from your life, not of your life. Keeping this in mind makes coming to the page to write memoir feel less daunting. I’m also partial to freewriting.
