Her other book, “Michigan Revealed: Exploring the Mitten’s Thumb,” is a photographic journey featuring colorful historic sites in the thumb region the reader can explore themselves. Her latest book, “Detroit Revealed: Another Look at the Motor City,” was released this August. Read more about her below!
What writing projects are you currently working on?
I am currently working on a picture book for ages 3 to 8 called “Visit Me” using my photography. I am also working on a travel photography book highlighting Michigan. And I am finishing up a fantasy novel.
What is your favorite part of the writing process?
I just enjoy writing and creating stories from my visions.
What does your writing workspace look like?
I have a laptop I take with me and whenever I get a chance, I write. I also voice to text while driving. At home, I have a small office, lined with books.
When did you first discover your love for writing? Were there any key moments or influences that sparked your passion?
I love to read and was the nerdy kid devouring classic literature in middle school. I always dabbled in writing and actually wrote my fantasy novel decades ago. I had an agent who was representing me, but life got in the way, so I was inspired now to resurrect it since my kids are grown. I also love to shoot images, and was inspired to write my travel books after an editor, who liked my pictures on Instagram, approached me about creating a book.
What is your favorite non-writing hobby?
I really enjoy rock climbing, hiking and horseback riding.
What is your favorite piece of writing advice?
Writing is tough work, but the satisfaction of creating something that is yours, is worth it.
